FYI

I didn't eat much cereal of the marshmallow-y type as a kid, but I'm making up for it now. If I had, though, I probably would have discovered this yummy meal then rather than recently. Here's how you roll: take your marshmallow cereal and pour it over some ice cream. I prefer the birthday cake-flavored ice cream. It can be rather sweet, so pick your marshmallow cereal wisely. Wegman's Marshmallow Treasure cereal is my choice.

yum yum.

Where does your time go? Please be aware of it and don't let it go to waste.

Go outside and play.

I'm considering posting the comics not so much on a weekly basis, but in chunks. It should be interesting, at least it is fun and I am excited to see how it all flows after it is completed.

Although you may not live in the Rochester area, consider this note as my way of bragging:

With the weather warming up, we can set a date to attend a little movie outside. Should be fun for all who attend.

And further along in the distant future, we have a little festival to keep in mind. The lineup has been announced, but even without looking at it one is guaranteed a good time.

Rochester is lovely when the weather warms up, honest. Don't miss out on it.

full moon

I never learned how to sleep.

The house I grew up in, well, the final house my family settled in was a simple one. There was a frontyard, there was a backyard. A driveway kept my mother's car inside the fenced area, my father's was parked outside. One large mesquite tree grew outside my window, where my dog's 'home' could be found. There was a television in the living room that always followed us, no matter where we moved. Massive and old, I spent many a night in front of it alone.

Many nights actually. By 8pm, the lights of my house began to dim as everyone prepared for bed. Almost everyone. My parents are early risers, my father waking up as early as 4am for work, followed by my mother to make him breakfast. For some reason my sister picked up the habit and went to bed as early as them.

I could not for I have never learned how to sleep.

I lay there, my mind rushing about trying to figure out what it is I am missing, the key to falling asleep. My sister would be gone in her slumber as quick as her head hit the pillow. In the dark, I lay awake. I could go to the living room and watch television with the volume set at the softest setting, but eventually it would disturb one of my parents. There was little I could do but exist as a mouse, trapped in this simple house.

But. I could go outside.

After the Texas sun burned the day away, the night would come with the cooling winds and bring back a softness that we miss in the day. And at 10:30pm, the howls begin.

Right on time.

The dogs would howl every night at 10:30pm, a Pavlovian reaction to the curfew siren that blares every night during the week. Out on the porch, listening to the chirps of the crickets, the song of the cicada, and the howling accompaniment from the neighborhood pooches - night would finally unveil itself unto the world.

And yet it is ever so quiet. I have only become a field mouse now as I avoid to wake the neighbors. So I sit and listen and think.

But on some nights, there is little to think of and more to be inspired by. On some nights, when the clouds are clear, the nightly serenade is blessed by the presence of a full moon.

You might not consider much about our celestial neighbors, but for me - I happen to place a lot of religious-type fervor into the sun and the moon. Call me old fashion, but they will always be able to captivate me. The sun - without which our world would surely wilt away, and the moon - whose mere presence controls the tide. I can empathize with our ancestors for such worship. I also humbly believe that a New Year's celebration should be in relation to the setting and rising of the sun and not this silly nonsense of a clock. Honestly- what more awe-inspiring way is there to begin a new year than to watch the rising of the sun?

But the moon - the moon could be a bit more special to me than the sun solely for being there at night while everyone else was asleep. There is this silence about the moon as you peer at it. All falls to a hush about you, waiting. Only it turns out that all are waiting for you.

For, to the moon, you are but an instant in its existence. And for you to take the time to notice the moon, it is only right for the moon to take the time to notice you. Only then, what do you do?

That's how I feel when there's a full moon.

ho hum

So the weekend was amazing!

That's all there is to it. (Oh, and my lady is the BEST)

Mother Mother was a blast and I would enjoy seeing them again. But the show did bring up a good question: is there a discrete and polite way to inform a performer that they've split their pants?

alas, a pair of hipster pants were to fall to that fate eventually.

I have acquired a date to submit a new film to a festival, now I just need the film to be complete. I think I will make two this year. One, of course, is the animation which is coming along quite well. The other - is left up in the air. Perhaps it is time to explore some new toys with old ideas.

SHTHTS will open this week.

It would have been nice to have informed me of my typo... thanks guys!

meh.

The news for this week is that I will be watching The Watchmen and JCVD (I grew up on the Muscles from Brussels films, thank my family for that), plus heading out to Water Street to check out Mother Mother .

whew, enough links for you?

Been busy working on the animation, it's going well! I should also note that I am now listed under the production crew list on the Rochester Film Office website. I don't think I ever stated that I am available to crew on production shoots. I should fix that.

Soon, you will find out technical tidbits about me such as my camera experience:

(Film)

35mm:
Arri 535B, Arri 435 ES, Arri BL-4, Arri BL-3, Arricam LT
Moviecam Compact MKII, Moviecam SL

16mm:
ARRI SR3, SR2
Aaton XTR Prod, Aaton A-minima
Bolex H16

(Digital)
Sony F-23, F900R, PMW-EX1, PMW-EX3
RED One
Panasonic AJ-HDX 900, Varicam, HVX-200
Canon XL-H1, XL-2

The list could be even longer, but I think I covered quite a bit. As far as I'm concerned, once you learn one, using and learning another will be a breeze, and it just gets easier and easier with each consecutive model. Especially once companies hammer down a standard (which will never happen) but, like learning a language, it's all about learning the proper syntax and you're good to go.

Well, at least it is to me. Not to toot my horn or anything, but I'm a master at learning how to use any piece of equipment.

Never will a more honest and truthful statement be written by me on this website.

Maybe.
