Everything green and living

So the day was a success; in that I found myself inspired and entertained. You will notice my type at every and any type of event. Arms usually crossed across my chest, I watch the show with the rest of the audience, yet I spend my time analyzing the tricks and watching the 'other hand' which we are not meant to see. In other words, I go to performances to study the performance. It's an annoying habit, especially when the performances are amazing; but I just can't seem to ever be fully involved and absorbed with the rest of the audience. This trait makes its way through any type of event, be it a show or a private party - I am never just there.

And I am okay with that.

Fuerza Bruta, though, had my attention most of the time. I knew that the show took place around the audience, but I did not know that the audience was part of the show. First off - no seats. We all stood around in a wide circular room with dim stage lights overhead that faded on and off. Some minimal house played as we crowded the center area. Fog permeated the rest of the space as we waited. The lights dimmed as the music came to a jarring stop. An overmind-type voice comes on to list the rules: listen to the staff and touch only with the palm of your hand. The show then begins with a burst of light and air. The show happens all around you, even inches from the top of your head. Quite surreal and very beautiful. A goal of the show is to get the audience to loosen up and join the characters as they pursue their own liberation from social standards. In other words: relax and party. By the end of the show the audience is doing just that, but I feel the ideal audience would have made the finale a blast. A great time to be had by all. If you enjoy an experience, of course.

Granted, reviews of this show have been going around for months already, but plenty of people are still not aware of it. Go on, see it. I suggest aiming for the rush tickets as the normal price tickets will scare off those of us who are financially burdened. That means getting there two hours before the show. It's alright, just go and buy the tickets, then chill. It is in Union Square afterall.

As a side note: with the weather getting nicer, I will be on the lookout for the street performing type. Jugglers, mimes, skaters - anyone actually. I want to get back into having impromptu photo sessions with the creative sorts. Details later, but if you're interested send me an e-mail.

silence is the reason

Well curse the technical expertise of an internet service provider; of course I mean their lack of. I did learn how to use a proxy, so it was not a complete mess and proved how I should definitely be looking into a different provider. Blocking the use of a browser is not the way to 'cut' a client's internet access. Granted it should have never been cut, but we'll ignore that.

I managed to build my first design for the 16mm scanning project. How successful will it be? I'll let you know after a few runs with it. I did not get much else done in terms of my projects. I did, however, clean and expand my workspace. So I did get things done for my projects.

The plan for tonight is to see Fuerza Bruta. That should get the blood flowing to the proper places. I've been expanding on a few scripts I had started a while back. It's good to know I did not abandon them for I like their concepts. Next weekend I will be in Rochester for a good time with friends and performers. Then in two weeks, I will be heading to Texas where I will screen two films and most definitely spend a lot of time taking pictures. I should look into seeing if anyone would want to model for me while I am down there. Modeling, of course, will not involve your usual 'magnum' stance. No oh no.
