Greetings,
After many days of packing and moving, I am somewhat settled into a new state of being. Although I still lack an internet connection, but we continue.
I've been excitedly following the LHC for a while, especially these last few days. Partly because of my association with games (Freeman!) and fascination with science in general, and just because it is damn interesting to not know what is and was going to happen. Then there are the doom-sayers that added an extra bit of spice into the mix. So much so, that it got a few of us thinking. More on that later....
So the world was to end when it was switched on? At 2:30 in the morn, EST, an unforseen event would take place and wipe out everything. Or at least cause a catastrophic change to our world, universe... at least to the immediate area? Well, 2:30 came and I managed to sleep through it, as did many others.
BUT, it did indeed happen. I awoke wondering if anything was different, and how I would recognize the change. I mean, if EVERYTHING was to be affected, then nothing was. Here's where the rambling begins to end: turning on the LHC did affect us. Whether or not our entire universe was destroyed or sucked into another universe is something left to be discovered, but as someone would say - merely turning it on OR deciding in fear to never turn it on changed our current state of being. We now exist with this buried beast, excited that it is working, excited to discover something new, and excited that we are still here, albeit in a different world.
If anything, I have enjoyed the attention that such a feat has gathered. When the entire world can unite and focus on such a grand decision, for science at that, well - it is just pleasing to have participated with you all.
